How do you get stock, purchasing and margin into one dashboard?
By joining them on the article and the period, and by first agreeing what margin means. Most wholesalers have three definitions in circulation: gross, after purchase discounts, and after freight and handling. Until that is settled no dashboard will be trusted. The joining is the real work, not the visualisation.
The three things that make it hard
- Article codes. Every supplier names the same product differently, and your own code is not always the leading one.
- Units. Bought per pallet, stocked per box, sold per piece, and the conversion is not always recorded.
- Prices that move. A purchase price that changes within the period makes margin dependent on which price you take.
What a working version looks like
Margin at four levels, from group down to individual shipment, on one model with one agreed definition. Not four reports that each calculate their own version, because that is where the argument starts rather than ends.

How do you get stock, purchasing and margin into one dashboard?

What makes wholesale harder than it looks?
Article codes that differ per supplier, units that change along the chain, and purchase prices that shift within the same period. Those three make joining the actual work, not the visualisation.
Can you show margin per shipment or per contract?
Yes, provided the costs can be attributed. Freight, handling and currency effects have to be allocated somewhere, and that allocation rule is a business decision rather than a technical one. Once it is agreed, the model can carry it at any level.
How current can the figures be?
Daily is straightforward and usually enough for purchasing decisions. More frequent is possible but changes the architecture underneath, so it should be driven by a decision that genuinely happens more than once a day.
How long does a first version take?
6 to 10 weeks to figures you can steer on, including the connections and the definitions. After that around 30 minutes per 2 weeks.
